Every ASIC miner running in the UAE hits at least one of these five issues within its first 12 months. The good news is that most are quick fixes if you know what to look for. This is the list we work through most often at our Dubai repair workshop — save yourself the service ticket if you can handle these yourself.

Problem 1 — Miner is throttling in summer
Symptoms: Hash rate drops 15-30% during the day, recovers at night. Temperature warnings in the web interface.
Cause: Intake air above the miner’s rated temperature. Dubai summer intake at an under-cooled facility or home easily hits 42-45°C.
Fix:
- Clean intake fans and air filters — dust accumulation during UAE summer is heavy
- Check for airflow obstructions within 30cm of the intake
- Lower the room set point by 2-3°C if you control the AC
- If these do not help, you probably need immersion cooling or a different facility
Problem 2 — One hash board is dead or underperforming
Symptoms: Total hash rate drops 33% (on a 3-board miner) with no temperature alert.
Cause: A single hash board has failed. In UAE conditions, this usually happens after 8-18 months of operation due to thermal cycling damage to BGA chips.
Fix:
- Check which board in the miner’s interface is reporting 0 chips
- Power off, reseat the board’s connector — fixes ~20% of cases
- If reseating fails, the board needs repair (hot air reflow for BGA) or replacement
- Our repair service typically turns this around in 3-5 days
Problem 3 — PSU failure
Symptoms: Miner does not power on at all, or randomly shuts off under load.
Cause: PSU capacitors or fans degrade faster in high-heat environments. Dubai facilities see PSU failures roughly 40% more often than temperate climates.
Fix:
- Swap with a known-good PSU to confirm it is the cause
- For Antminer APW12 and similar, replacements are 400-700 AED from our accessories shop
- Install the replacement — usually 15-minute job, one screwdriver
Problem 4 — Fan is screaming at 100% constantly
Symptoms: One or both fans running at max speed even when the miner reports normal temperatures.
Cause: Fan bearing failure or a faulty temperature sensor on one of the hash boards.
Fix:
- Inspect the fan for physical wobble or noise — bearing failure
- Replace the fan — standard 120mm or 140mm PWM fans are plentiful in the UAE (120-250 AED)
- If both fans are fine, the issue is a faulty temp sensor. Can be replaced or firmware-patched
Problem 5 — Miner keeps disconnecting from pool
Symptoms: Pool dashboard shows frequent offline/online cycles. Shares drop to zero periodically.
Cause: Network issue — either the facility’s internet is flaky or the miner’s Ethernet port is failing.
Fix:
- Try a different Ethernet cable and switch port
- Check for firmware updates — some older firmware has known pool connection bugs
- If the host’s facility has unstable internet, switch to a backup pool in the miner config
- In extreme cases, replace the control board (200-400 AED)
Preventative maintenance for UAE miners
Most of these problems can be avoided or delayed with routine care:
- Clean fans and filters every 60-90 days in summer, every 6 months otherwise
- Check firmware release notes quarterly
- Monitor hash rate and temp trends weekly — slow degradation is easier to fix than sudden failure
- Keep a spare PSU and fan kit in your inventory if you run 5+ rigs
Frequently Asked Questions
How long does a hash board repair take?
At Assetminers’ Dubai workshop, 3-5 days standard, 24-48 hours expedited. Shipping to an international repair service adds 2-3 weeks.
Is it cheaper to repair or replace a hash board?
Repair typically costs 400-800 AED. New replacement board from the OEM is 1,200-2,500 AED. Repair makes sense unless the damage is extensive.
Do hosted miners get free repair?
Not usually. Most UAE hosts include monitoring and restart service but bill repair separately. Some offer service contracts that cover certain failures.
Can I repair a hash board myself?
BGA rework requires a hot-air station and practice. Fan and PSU swaps are DIY-friendly. Chip-level repair is not beginner territory.
What causes most failures in UAE mining?
Heat stress during summer is the biggest single factor. Dust and salt air in coastal facilities is second. Poor PSU quality accounts for about 20% of total failures.
Bottom line
Most ASIC problems in the UAE have 10-minute fixes if you catch them early. If something is outside your comfort zone, send it to our workshop — we handle 50+ rigs a month and know most failure modes by sight.
